About Us
Our Training Approach
At Back to Balance Canine, our training programs are built around the individual dog and the relationship they share with their owner. Whether a dog is working through behavioral challenges or simply needs better structure, obedience, and leash manners, our approach is designed to create lasting clarity, balance, and trust.
We begin by helping each dog develop a calm, neutral state of mind—one they can carry into real-world situations. This foundation allows dogs to think clearly, regulate their emotions, and make reliable choices. From there, we build engagement and a clear marker system that creates a shared language between dog and human, setting consistent expectations for behavior.
Our training is reward-based and balanced, using all four quadrants of learning. Every behavior is taught first through positive reinforcement so dogs understand what is being asked and remain motivated to learn. As skills become clear, tools such as the prong collar and e-collar are carefully introduced through negative reinforcement to reinforce known behaviors and provide dependable communication—not punishment.
Once behaviors are established, we gradually increase difficulty through real-world distractions. This proofing process teaches dogs that the same rules apply in all environments, allowing unwanted behaviors to be addressed without damaging confidence or drive. The result is a dog with reliable obedience, emotional stability, and skills that hold up over time.
This thoughtful, structured approach is why Back to Balance Canine is trusted by dog owners and rescues throughout Knoxville and East Tennessee to bring balance back to the relationship between dog and human.
EXCELLENT Based on 31 reviews Posted on Richard BarrTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have a two year old Chesapeake Bay retriever. Her name is Tilley. She is a very active and loving dog to her people. She is super smart and loves to play . She wasn’t socialized with other dogs or people because of us building a house. She was very protective of her people and property to a point we thought she was a liability. I researched reviews on dog trainers and found Back to Balance K9. Dallas Hamilton. Dallas was a game Changer for our dog Tilley! She is amazing on her knowledge of dog behavior and training ! She had to deal with Tilley’s very aggressive behavior from the start! I was shocked at how my dog that I raised from 8 weeks old flipped a switch to attack mode ! Dallas handled Tilley very professionally. Dallas was able to develop a trusting relationship with my dog and worked wonders with her. Dallas trained her on leash and off leash commands, expanded obedience, socializing her with people and other dogs. Tilley even went on field trips to Home Depot and Tractor Supply. I have been so grateful for what she was able to teach my girl Tilley ! Dallas also had to train me and my wife on the new commands. Gave us plenty of literature and training videos to help us stay on top of our Girls growth. We could not be more pleased and would recommend Dallas for any type of dog training. Back to Balance K9 was the Best for us ! Thank you Dallas for all you have done !Posted on Becky BarrTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dallas with Back to Balance Canine completely transformed our 2 year Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Tilley used to pull like crazy on walks, very aggressive to other dogs and people. Jumped on us. Dallas was incredibly patient and explained everything clearly using positive reinforcement . After a six week session of board and training our walks are now enjoyable, and Tilley is much calmer around people and other dogs. The homework and follow-up tips were super helpful too. Highly recommend if you want real, lasting results!Posted on Amy GipsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dallas and her team have done wonders helping my timid American shepherd overcome her fear of everything. The basic obedience training has made her a good walking companion and a pleasure to have around. These professional trainers are to be commended for quality work and a true compassion for dogs.Posted on Susan BusadaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dallas is terrific with Cooper. He came back from his training with strong skills, and I was taught how to reinforce them at home. She takes a true interest in the dogs she trains, and it shows.Posted on Sam CrutcherTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our experience was incredible. Dallas was incredibly helpful and transparent about what their process is, and how we can get the most out of our German Shepherd. Their communication was great, and kept us up to date through out the entire training program!Posted on Melissa E.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Working with Dallas and her team was a great experience. They helped guide us through the first several months of puppy life and set us up for future success. Our dog absolutely loved the socialization with other dogs and structure B2B provided.Posted on Danielle CunninghamTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I just attended a weeklong seminar with Dallas and can not say enough about her skill, and her ability to communicate and transfer knowledge to the handler! We saw all dogs in our group show great improvement over the week. The time and work Dallas has put in to learning her craft is obvious. She is incredibly experienced in all things dog training from pet dogs to high level working and sport dogs. If you are interested in becoming a better dog trainer, I would HIGHLY recommend attending her mentorship program.Posted on brandon. dillsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Whole new dog , they are absolutely amazing!!!Posted on Hippie ColleenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dallas is an absolute master when.it.comes to understanding, communicating and training of both Dogs & their humans. There is nobody I'd trust more with both information and my Dog. I've Witnessed her befores & Afters for over a decade ,and the puppies she's raised...I would trust every single one of her animals as well. I like to say She's the Peyton Manning of Dog Trainers, because her mother has been.my Dog trainer for decades... she has been to schools worldwide and learned from all the best. If you have an opportunity for her to work with your Dog & You... well consider yourself lucky, you will NOT regret it. It is the BEST DECISION YOU COULD MAKE FOR YOUR DOG....Posted on tian liewTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I sent two of my dogs for a board & train with Dallas, adopted a third dog who was being fostered/trained by Dallas, referred my sister who also had her dog do a board & train with Dallas, AND completed two shadow programs with Dallas after I decided I wanted to get into the dog business myself, so to say I love and trust Dallas is an understatement!! Dallas has so much knowledge and experience and watching her not only with the dogs, but also build her business has always been so inspirational. I have really appreciated having her as a mentor. I started out knowing nearly nothing about dog training and the amount I learned from her during the training of my own dogs and the shadow programs has been invaluable. I now run my own structured daycare & boarding business in the Bay Area and still always reference what she taught me. In the future I hope to enroll in more of her programs because I know I will always be able to learn something new and beneficial from Dallas that can help me develop my business and my skills!Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
